Any 1:48 or 1:50 cars/trucks out there?

Let me just add my [2c] [:D] I like the true 1/43rd. scale cars myself, but boy, they sure make some nice ones in 1/50 !!
Dave: Diecast direct was showing a 1/43rd. car carrier & it was only around 10 dollars ! I was going to get one & it comes with a Semi truck, too !
I sometimes use my : " Reversed Force Perspective " !! [:D] I put my favorite 1/50 cars up front !! [:D][:D] Just thought I'd invent a new term ! [:D]

Agree. However, using forced perspective, one could get away with putting a 1/43 car close to the edge of the layout away from the trains. The additionally benefit would be that it would give a sense of depth to the layout.

On the downside 1/43 wouldn't fit inside an open auto transporter (if one is ever made).

Bottom line; there's very little 1:48 stuff out there that's affordable.

1/43 doesn't match up with anything. it was a mistake of history to let the british play with toy trains. it's their fault; they did it!

1/50 seems to be the predominant scale for larger trucks, and close enough to 1/48 to be an acceptable scale.

to my eye 1/48 is the only way to go. with all due respect; the 1/43 cars can look good, and do fit well on an 0 gauge layout. just don't mix in any 1/48 cars; the contrast is too great.

I HAVE TO AGREE with you on that !!!!! It's extremely bad when a 1/43rd scale car,overpowers (in size) a 1/50th scale Fire Engine !!
The "Engine" should be larger than the car.

revell did most of them in the 50's and many are available in the antique marketplace (collectors).

a few years ago they did a rerelease of some of their 50's trucks; ford f-100 pickup, tanker truck (white freightliner), chevy 1 ton stakebed, and semi-truck with flatbed trailer (the honest john missle carrier). some of these are still available in hobby stores and the auction site.

some turn of the century (20th) vehicles are currently produced and can be found at some hobbyshops.

these are 1/4" scale, and stand out quite readily when campared to the affordable 1/43 cars.

they are out there; just keep looking.

K-Mart used to have some vehicles,under the name of "Road Champs",approx.
1/43 rd scale,and were quite reasonable in price.
Athearn is marketing a line of 1/50th (?) models with the Ford C series tilt cab.
They have box,stake sides,tractors,and fire apparatus. They are a bit on the
pricey side,but have excellent details.

If you have any toy shows in your area it might be worth checking them out. I attended one a couple of years ago and although where I live they tend to be mostly farm toys if you tell the vendors what your looking for they may have some. One vendor I talked to said that at a mostly farm toy show they don't bring everything in and then went out to his van and came back with a large box of 1/43 and 1/50 vehicles

I am very happy with the 1:43 scale for cars and have a couple of 1:50 pick up trucks. I keep my eyes out at WalMart and Kmart and find what I need in those places. I have a Corgi grayhound bus that I got some years back. I think it is 1:50 (paid more than I shold have) and looks good. If you must go with with 1:48 and are an absolute stickler for scale, you have to really search, but that is part of the fun.

I found some 1:55 cars at a dollar store yesterday. They're contemporary, but 1:55 would be a pretty good match for traditional stuff, like the 6464 boxcars.

Actually 1:64 (same as S gauge) is a better match for O27. Next time you're in a train store that has some AF, hold a Lionel O27 gondola up next to an AF gondola and see what I mean.

Dennis, Tuesday Morning is great, the unfortunate part is that there are a couple of cops who patrol that area who are also Corgi collectors. Guess who gets first shot ? Oh well, I still haven't gotten a couple of flats for the last two Corgi items I got there.

You should check WalMart, I bought some JD tractors and a JD pickup with load recently. Also, Tuesday morning will have them occasionally. I bought about 10 different fire trucks and a corgi bus there. Another place is Big Lots, I have purchased several scale buildings and trucks there. Check back at these places as the inventory changes often. If you hear of anything at these places, go soon as again, the inventory will be gone before you know it.

I check around the dollar stores and once in a while you can find something. Ebay has several for sale. I bought a few fire engines but probably paid more than I should. There are some for sale that are priced more than a Lionel box car! I am in steam era, so I have a few of the K-Line coke trucks.

In Wal-Mart, Target, etc, they occasionally get cars in that look to be more 1:43. And, since I'm aiming for the 1950s, about the only thing they usually have are convertibles and pickup trucks.

A couple years ago, Target had a blowout sale on about 5 varieties of trucks for about $3 each or less.

Corgi have a range of diecast 1:50 scale trucks under a variety of names. They've offered some US trucks before now including a Diamond T ballast tractor unit with assorted trailers. I have one with a tank transporter trailer and one with a hefty girder low-loader trailer though they've also offered wreckers (which are very nice models indeed and highly sought-after) and semi-trailers, as well as a smaller Diamond T. Prices are variable though if you shop around you can usually find them cheaply, particularly when the new year's range comes in and the retailers need the space (got my tank transporter that way - £50 reduced to £20)!

Boyd, The Doctor is In!!! Have you checked Diecastdirect.com. ? They have cars & trucks in different scales. I have looked for different cars, they also have some military cars & trucks & tanks. Give it a try.

I can find 1:50 catapillar and JD loaders, graders, catapillars etc. Semi trucks,,, but cars and light duty trucks in O scale are very hard to find. I know 1:43 cars and trucks are out there but they just look too big next to 027 cars.
