Sunday Photo Fun 2/26/06

I understand better....Now. One idea that I have seen and works real well, get 3 painter's lights, the ones with the clip on. Then get three bright daylight bulbs. Lastly, get a extension cord with the dimming feature (may be hard to find, might have to make), then you set up with the brightest bulb high and at 2 O'clock. Next, have one shining down and behind the subject. Lastly, the one with the dimmer, have coming from say 8O'clock. ( you will adjust these as needed to fix the shadows). Then, when you get the featured look that you want, snap your picture. With digital, you will find that you can work the lighting to be just right. You should not need the flash as it would give an unrealistic effect.
Let me know how it works out. I have not posted photos here, but am a work in progress on photography. I think you will like the results.

Dennis, I wasn't talking about the fluorescent color ( I have a fluorescent filter for my camera) as I was the type of light. and direction. Since most of the light for my layout at present comes straight down, I get no details of the sides of anythng and the tops are to bright, The fact that I am not a great photographer doesn't help, but I keep trying.

They have electric buses like that in Cambridge Mass around Harvard. The wires run in the middle lane and the buses can drive in the curb, middle and "fast" lanes without lossing power.

In HO scale Brawa (sp?) makes working versions of these. Or they did in the early 90's.

Cool. Guess you can't veer too much from your lane or your trolley pole will become unseated! Apparently, they are drawing the same power as the trolleys that run alongside them. Think you can see the tracks to the right in one of the photos. These trolley buses are much much less common than the railed trolleys.

BTW, in April 06 Trains, nice article on Chicago light rail being extended dozens of miles on 3 routes. I know you're keeping up with that.

David, I've ridden some of these at the Illinois Railway Museum. Have a picture of one on my bulletin board right now. Kind of like a rubber wheeled trolley!

Well, I've showed diesel, electric, cogs, trolley in Zurich where I went in January so how about 2 shots of trolley buses. I don't think these are too common in the US!





Would you consider these trains? I guess I would say they're honorary trains. They operate in the same vicinity of trolleys and are all linked together and on time.

Laz, that "thing" coming out of the bottom door is the HAZMAT team member. It was necessary to call HAZMAT due to the nature of the load in the boxcar that caught fire, we did not want it to spill on the ground and contaminate the soil in Roger's Corners, Ohio. The car was carrying an illegal load of grits and sweet iced tea. [:D][:D][:D]

Dennis, I also hope you post that info ! Our digital cameras have a setting for flourescent lighting, but does it really work ? I some times use both, but I don't know much about it , only that more lighting is good, I think !! [:)]

I have some books on taking photos with different lighting. there is a trick to flourescent lights. I think you need a green cover for the light ( you can use colored saran wrap like they have around Christmas time). I will check the book when the person who borrowed it returns it.

A great bunch of pictures as usual. I ordered some track and track lighting so I can get some decent lighting on the layout. Fluorescent is fine for working but the pits for taking pictures.

Here is where I built a hillside to cover the controls for switches, uncoupling tracks and some of the operating accessories. I need to complete the underside of the hill yet.

Another attempt to get this.

I had purchased a chain link fence kit and this is my first section on the layout. The kit was a little tough for me to figure out but when I did it was alot easier for me to do. There is some soldering involved and I haven't done much of that in my life. LOL



I just previewed this one and it shows the link to the picture. The previous pictures, I copied the url before the picture was enlarged and this one I copied the url from the enlarged version. Let's see what happens.

Here are a few pictures of areas on the layout that I had posted questions about.

Hope this turns out today. LOL

This is of the planking I have put across the Truss Bridge alongside the corkroadbed. I may put another run of these plankings on each side yet to make it three wide.



This is one of covering the wires to lockons. I forgot to put in a short section of the Add-a-Tie product opposite the lockon to fill in the gap. Will save that for later though. The lower part of the picture is a portion of the liftout section.



I am going to stop at these two to see if I did this alright. I had saved the pictures (5 x 7) at shutterfly so I hope they are large enough.
