The 3662 and the 34X2 series are 2 quite different car sizes. The 3472 shell is quite a bit shorter (designed for O27) than the 3662 (about the size of 6464 box cars).

I guess they exist, but I have never seen a post war milk car where the operating mechanism wasn't salvageable. The mechanism is usually very reliable, and is quite easy to tinker with when it isn't. The more usual problems with the post war milk cars are wiring, sliding shoes, and doors.

Milk Car Question
Posted by traindaddy1 on Tuesday, February 21, 2006 10:13 AM
Hi! A few years ago Lionel started to remake favorites in their Celebration Series. One of the cars is listed as "3662 Postwar Celebration Milk Car #6-19554" My question is: Would anyone know if the shell could be replaced by one of the older #3472 shells and still operate as well? If so, this would give the appearance of the older with the insides of the newer. Thanks.
