When I took apart my UCS (later vsn of RCS) controller, there were little rubber insulators between several of the copper reeds, but not all of them. That allows the proper contacts to be made when a button is pressed but prevents the wrong ones from shorting the circuits. Find a controller that works and make a note of the placement of the insulators if that is the problem. Then find some insulator parts to put inside. The reeds have a hole near the end for the teat of the insulator and the reeds are close to each other in order to hold the insulators.
Bending the reeds is not a good strategy.

You said your 022 lamps dim when you press the controller button. Do the lamps dim when there is no car on the RCS track? If they do, there is a wiring or RCS internal problem.

If the lamps stay the same with no car on the RCS, try another operating car with sliding shoes besides your milk car. If the lamps dim now, but didn't with no car, chances are the voltage is too low for the operating car to work. If the other car works, but your milk car doesn't, either voltage is too low or milk car mechanism is binding.

Hope this helps.

Disconnect the wires and use paint or nail poli***o mark one of the outer wires along its length so you know where to start when connecting the other end. That way you'll eliminate the wiring as your problem.

RCS track for o guage-need help
Posted by Anonymous on Tuesday, February 21, 2006 9:45 AM
Need some help installing my old RCS track. It does not work. I need to keep my milk car busy! I checked the controller with bottom off-there is sparking when either button is pressed so I know juice is getting to the contacts. I cleaned the contacts on the track and checked the solder points underneath-they look ok. When I try the track, it causes my 022 lamps do glow less bright, so something is happening. The flat cable snakes around under the table aways-is it possible to land the spade terms on the wrong lugs-I tried to keep the cable flat, even switched the terminals on the track. I also polished the rails shiny. The track is not wired for fixed voltage. Anyone venture to guess what I could try next?
Thanks in advance
Tom
