What trains would you buy if you won the PowerBall??
Posted by mitchelr on Saturday, February 18, 2006 4:32 PM
Over in the Coffee Pot someone mentioned the forum being slow today becasue everyone must be out buying lottery tickets.

As for me, if I won the PwerBall, I think that besides a new train room (or building), I'd have to get a Lionel Western Maryland Shay.

Anyone else have a train they'd just have to have??

I'd probably rent 5 or 10,000 square feet of warehouse space, order of sheetload of lumber & plywood and start hammerin'.

I think I'd buy a ocean-front house to put a new layout in. I'd also rent a old, beautiful Observation car for a few months and tour the country by rail. I'd sit on the rear platform with my feet up on the railing and watch the world go by. Joe

I think I'd go up a gauge to G, or 1 gauge live steam. Locate it on my grounds outside my chateau in France. Have my staff of french maids tend to it whilst I sip on a libation.

I'll start with the "American Orient Express". [:D]
Now that would be one heck of a train set to start with. [:o)]

It would be nice to have enough to give to worthwhile causes.

I know some preservation groups could really benifit from an understanding benifactor.

Okay, let's get serious here: I'd purchase the Riverhead to Greenport section of the LIRR. I'd fully finance the restoration of G-5s #39 & #35 as well as the completion of K4s #1361 to "as built" condition (preWWII beauty treatment). I'd then start a wine & dinner train through the vinyards of the North Fork much like the Napa Valley has. I'd restore the turntable and servicing facilities at Greenport complete with water tank and wooden coaling tower.

My commute would be by ferry from my home on the shore of Deering Harbor on Shelter Island to the train station in Greenport adjacent to the ferry dock.

For a start, I would buy one of these with matching passenger cars:

Then I'd buy Steamtown. [:D]

I'd look into having a basement installed under the house instead of the current crawl space. Its a pqin having to go across the yard to the "barn" to run my trains, especially when the weather is a bummer.

All my wishing is for naught, Georgia dropped out of Power Ball and now has Mega Millions. The Mrs. buys the tickets twice a week and the most winnings have been a whole $10. Needless to say she's in the red.

Lets see, all of Lionel's TMCC Diesels and Steamers in the in the roadnames I like, with a ton of freight and passenger cars to go along with them, all the premium sets, AtlasO's engines and cars, add a ton more to my G scale and buy the 2 properties next to my house, and construct a very large structure that has the first level for all of my dream cars, and the second level all trains. Wow, that would be the life wouldn't it!!!!!!!!

Lets not forget buying my own Shortline RR, as well as plenty of houses so I can enjoy the views of some RR ROW, and some others at the shore for summer, and of course storing boats.

I would buy one of the few real GG-1's languishing in the elements and rescue it. I would restore it to it's original glory and I would build a small roundhouse type building on my new propery display it.

Then I would set about building a stupid huge three rail layout (like the one Mark Hart built and was featured in the Jan 2006 special issue of CTT) in my new fully climate controlled train shop next to the roundhouse.

Yes, the whole company. I would make them an offer they couldn't refuse.

Buckeye, that seems like a good idea. You could make even more money.
I guess the one post I had was not related to trains because I mentioned cars in it. Who would agree with me that they would treat themselves to cars from companies such as Audi, Lamborghini, Ferrari, Cadillac, Porsche, Mercedes, Aston Martin, Bentley, BMW, and Rolls Royce?

Offer to host a CTT Forum Week-End Convention, (provided that everyone contractually agreed to honor the "return" portion of their roundtrip ticket as specified.)

At such convention everyone would display / operate some equipment for all the kids we could find.

I would purchase a mint set of every train listed in my Dad's 1948 Lionel catolog. Paying attention to the notes he wrote as a teenage boy on the pages.
Than I would have to by Mom that red and white 65 Corvette she always wanted.

Build a big enough building to house a hugh I mean really hugh lawout and have everyone on the forum led by TOM and BUCKEYE from OHIO come here to MILLERSBURG,PA and give there two cents, all expenses paid for. Have a Marvel made for youg and old to enjoy. Anytime of day or night.
Have everything under the sun so the people could run conventional as well as remote controled to get them interested in the hobbie.
Then after all was said and done give each person a starter set to begin their own journey.

Sounds good. Especially if the Yankees agreed to return home after it was over. [can't trust them, they like to move South or West to get away from their miserable land[;)]]

All the TMCC engines I need for my layout, say 40 or 50, and maybe a couple hundred more cars.

I might also get a 1 1/2" scale engine and cars to ride.

N&W J 611 in every version it came in by every manufacturer. DD40s, SD40-2s (my favorite) and about 500 PS-2 high sided hopper cars in CNW green, Buy or build a warehouse for a layout and attempt to break that record for the longest O gauge train ran.

As for the full size stuff I would want a real SD40-2. A Mclaren F1 roadcar, Ferrari F355 in red. And thats just for starters.

Modeling the "Fargo Area Rapid Transit" in O scale 3 rail.
