I closed my PayPal account some time ago because my credit card # got out through them. They are not secure! They also have not closed my account. I closed the credit card down and who cares what they access now. I will never use them again and suggest you be very careful about it. When I use ebay it is postal money orders only!

Just wait till someone tries to access your checking thru Paypal, when buying or selling. And firewalls don't deter.A good friend of mine in PA. got $2500 lifted from their checking account .When it was tracked down to a college student buying a computer and porn,it was linked directly to my friend using Paypal. And he had installed the best firewall at that time.I was warned by Paypal three weeks ago that a third party had tried to access my info. and I've not used Paypal in over a year. Then I was sent a spoof ebay email two days later. My theory is good ole USPS money orders.Cause anytime there is a violation in a transaction thru the USPS whether it's buying or selling (and it is conveyed thru the mail) it is a FEDERAL CRIME.It is also smart to use a sign upon receipt certificate,to make sure the recipient gets the item, and doesn't scam you.[2c]

I used PayPal once , a couple of years ago, and have tried repeatedly to close my account after getting notices from PayPal that " I " have added new e-mail addresses to my account. Neither e-mails nor real mails have been answered, and I will never use them again, no matter what. Watch Out !!

I prefer to use paypal credit payments when purchasing online. I feel it gives me added protection against a bad deal. By using the credit card, I have recourse with the credit card issuer as well as paypal. I've not had one bad experience yet with paypal. I hope I don't. I appreciate sellers willing to use it, eventhough it can get a little pricey for them

Thanks,
Dwayne.

Hi! I've used PayPal both ways with only one problem which PayPal referred to as a computer glitch. PayPal serves as way to get funds faster if the buyer also uses it but they do take their fees which, if you are selling an inexpensive item, could defeat the purpose of E-Bay. One draw-back is that PayPal has no influence on the Seller to ship fast. The shipper is on his own time-table. I like PayPal as a Buyer but as a Seller, I prefer PayPal customers who use their PayPal or Bank Account not a credit card through PayPal. Many thanks for asking.

HI
I prefer to pay with paypal, and when a sell I prefer money order.
So when you go to send the item, you can take the money. (fresh money no fee).

I won't use PayPal, I have had several friends that had problems with purchases and niether paypal or ebay would resolve them. I have difficulty in letting a company hold my credit card information in their database. Too much hacking and ID theft. I only use money orders, though I keep my purchases below 200.00, so if I ever do get burned, it is not that much.

PayPal makes it easier to do ebay transactions & I have not had any trouble with PayPal, have not used PayPal credit to take any orders. I prefer checks or money orders for items.

PayPal is a good deal for the buyer. It allows the buyer to use a credit card with the normal protections and the ability to withold payment or "chargeback" in the event something goes wrong. It also lets the buyer put their credit card info on just one server, not on many all over the Internet.

For small sellers like me, it is the only way to accept credit card payments. I don't do enough selling - nor do I ever intend to - to warrant opening my own merchant accounts with credit card companies. Yet not accepting credit cards requires buyers to purchase money orders or cashier's checks (time and aggravation) and is riskier for them (no reasonable way to get their money back from a deal gone bad). Not accepting credit cards limits the price and audience.

PayPal fees for sellers are about in line with what merchants pay, but when added to the other eBay fees, I am probably approaching 10% - more on lesser priced items - total charges to eBay/PayPal. That does not include the wrapping/handling/packaging costs - I find that buyers are don't like to be charged more than actual USPS shipping costs, so the rest comes out of the selling price.

The problems with PayPal for the honest seller comes mainly from 2 areas. One, falling for a phishing scheme, and getting your financial info/identity stolen - you WILL get phishing e-mails just as soon as you open a PayPal account. Second is a buyer who complains to PayPal and initiates a charge-back (hasn't happned to me yet). PayPal freezes not only your PayPal funds but also money in the checking account to which PayPal is tied. And they take forever to investigate and resolve the issue, and don't care about what they have done to you - their customer.

The latter issue is the biggest downer in the eBay/PayPal experience from both sides. There is no real attempt by eBay/PayPal to resolve fraud on either buyer/seller ends, and there is apparently just enough fraud out there that sooner or later nearly everybody gets burned.

I haven't been burned yet, but I have heard enough horror stories to believe I will one of these days. And that unfortunately takes most of the fun out of the process for me. On the other hand, so far all the modelers I have done business with via eBay have been great people.

I avoid taking paypal "credit" orders. In order to offer paypal credit to your buyers you have to pay a fee on every paypal transaction (not just the credit ones) and it gets expensive. I state in my auctions "No Paypal Credit or credit cards accepted". Also fraudulent buyers can reverse a credit charge after you ship (expecially overseas) but they can not reverse a paypal payment.

If you spend a lot of time on the road, Paypal makes purchasing much easier. I frequently don't know where the local post office is, or it is a long ways off, or due to the work schedule I just can't get there while it is open.
Of course, while I'm on the road the better half has the checkbook so that option isn't available, either.

Paypal rocks.

In some cases it knocks off a week of waiting for your check to clear (or your having to take the time to get a money order), and it is the best (perhaps only) way to do overseas transactions.

Well, at times I am a little behind on technology. A good example is I
just started taking PayPal and seems like many buyers prefer PayPal
over checks or money orders. I am quite surprised at the preference
that appears to exist.

What are your feelings? Do you prefer using PayPal? Is it a deterent to
a purchase if the person does not take PayPal? Do you feel it is a
reason to purchase from someone if they do take PayPal?

Very best, Mike Spanier
