How many hours a week do you run trains?

I probably run them only an hour each week right now. Too many other things going on. The only time I run more is when I can get the kids to either play downstairs or run the trains with me. lately, I have been mostlyunpacking and organizing stuff I bough off ebay and selling stuff on ebay when I am down stairs.

on average about 10 hours a week...about 1 hour on weekday and 5-6 on week end.

Sometimes much more 5-6 hours a day and not very often not running at all.

Two of my friends and I run trains at least 6 hours every Sunday evening (prototypically) and usually two Satrurdays per month for 8 hrs. I usuall run each engine I own for 30 minutes through the week (make sure they are ready for the weekend.

Being in the dead of winter right now my basement is my sanctuary. A place to get away from it all, and hopefully dry and warm. So if I'm in the basement I'm either running trains ot cleaning up so that I can run trains. Sometimes I think I spend more time maintaining the layout and picking up the screwdrivers, wirecutters, wire, etc. than actually running my trains. And then there's just the accumulation of junk, toys, clothes, etc. that gathers around the layout. So after I remove all that stuff and last nights beer can(s), about 15 min. a night. Then again my layout is only an oval with a passing sideing, so thats plenty of time.

15 to 20 minutes a day. Lots of hours at work, lots of hours for school study, working on layout and can't forget quality time with wife. I run them when I need what I call a smoke break. Jim

We just have 2 loops of track. Smaller stuff on the inner loop. No prototypical running for us. Just round and round she goes.

This is interesting. How do those of you run your trains: in an operating session kind of prototypically - however you'd define that; or just a favorite engine or train? I run the trolleys together in their big loops - they meet at a junction and I try to time their meet. Then it depends on who's with me - they may point out the 248 or Santa Fe steamer which I'll pull out for them to run.

Because I work on my computers in the evening 5 or 6 nights a week I run at least one loop (2 to 3 trains per loop) while working. I usually run all 16 trains simultaneously for an hour one day a week so at least 6 hours per week. My layout has been up for a year and the engine info (menu/system/advance/info) on most of my engines is between 100 and 200 hours.

I run mine trains for about 2 to 3 hours a week, but I spend 1 hour every day, reading about, cleaning, thinking....etc.....anfd for mi wife is a lot.

My layout from Christmas is still up, minus the tree, because my son (2 yrs) and daughter (4 yrs) will not let me take it down. My son asks to run the trains on a daily basis. I probably run about 3+ hours a week. I don't have a permanent layout so when the Christmas layout is put away I set up a few loops on the dining room table to the chagrin of my wife, but the kids insist [:)]. I run the trains less in the summer, probably less than an hour per week.

I run mine for about 30 min. 4 -5 times a week. At this point, I'm spending more time building the layout.

I haven't run mine in three months as I am in Nevada for the winter and my trains are in Michigan. When in Michigan I run them daily, sometimes only for only ten or fifteen minutes and other times for hours. After May of this year I will be able to run at least one train all year around. Starting in March we will be renting a two bedroom apartment in Nevada all year around. Of course we will be in Michigan for the summer. When we return to Nevada for the winter I will be able to bring at least one train and a loop of track. The second bedroom in our Nevada apartment will be a computer / train room. The apartment that we have right now is only a one bedroom and therefore no room for trains. Needless to say next winter will be much better for train running.

Hmmm, good question. Actually running them? Non-stop or cumulative? ;) Probably no more than an hour or so a week - but I work on layout projects more frequently...
