The Ives catalog for 1926 lists one freight set in O gauge - headed by a #3251 Electric.

For 1928 we have two freight sets with cars of that type one headed by electric #3260 and the other with electric #3254.

The only O gauge freight in 1928 headed by a steam engine was the #445 set with a #1120. The freights, however, are the 9 inch cars.

I'm not an Ives expert; but I do have a suggestion: Lionel made some Ives locomotives after they (and American Flyer) bought Ives around 1930. In 1933, they made the 4-wheel electric 1651E and the 2-4-0 steam locomotive 1661E as Lionel-Ives. There may have been others that I don't know about. Including these in your search might improve your chances of finding something suitable.

There doesn't seem to be too much documentation out there on Ives sets so I'll toss a question out to the Ives tinplaters.

I recently got a bunch of Ives freight cars. Some cleaned up nicely and will be part of the collection, so now I need an engine to match. The freight cars are #s 63, 65, 67 and a NYNH boxcar 64386. According to the the guide I have they're all dated to about 1926-28 and have the 4-wheel trucks. Any ideas of what kind of locomotive would be pulling this "set"? Would they just be elecrics? I like to display and run something which had a reasonable possibility of existing on some kid's pike some 80 years ago.

Any ideas would be helpful in my search for motive power.
