For help with block control there are some articles in Classic Toy Trains magazine that should help you. Also passenger cars use more power because of having a light bulb or two in each one of them, so consider that when planning to expand, switches can use some more current also unless supplied by a constant voltage source. I don't know all the transformers out there today but a two or four train transformer may be what you will need in a couple of years.

I have the exact layout that you described. I'm able to power the track, 3 lighted buildings and my Polar Express train all from the CW-80 that came with the PE set. I've also run 2 trains (The PE and my MTH Subway) at the same time on this layout and saw no signs of any problems.

You should be good for now. Like tcripe said, you'll want to think about block division and getting another transformer as you expand or if you want to throttle each engine separately.

Provided your CW-80 is a good one, I don't see any problems. I've run two engines with TMCC, and powered 7 remote switches on a 16x8 F-shaped dogbone with one. Of course these were powered by can motors, so the amperage wasn't all that much, even with dual motored engines. You may want to think about block divisions after you acquire another engine. At that point, you will need another transformer to power the other loop.

Have a question.

Recently got the NY Flyer set which comes with the loop of 40x60 fastrack. Also bought another loop of the same. I have ordered 2 left hand O36 fastrack turnouts. My thought is to run an outer loop and an inner loop connected by the 2 turnouts connected to each other. I have the CW-80 transformer that came with the set. I am only planning on running one train on it. Eventually, I will buy 2 right hand turnouts so that I can enter the inner loop and exit it without having to back up.

I have read just enough about blocks and isolated sections to get myself confused. My question is this. Will the above setup work without any other special wiring? Will the CW-80 adequately power all of the track?
