I have just received as a gift an old Lionel 2020 Loco, but it needs cleaning contacts & AC-motor overhaul, to run perfect again,it seems not a hard case, but would like to know if there is any site with useful restoration tips, I would be very grateful receiving any help!

The motor repair is not that hard but taking out some of the screws & rememberring where they go when re-assembling may be rather hard. I have worked on Lionel 224E
and 249E locomotives, most of the screws to take out are on the bottom side, there should be at least one screw on the top of the locomotive in front of the cab, can not tell you exact location as each steam locomotive varies. When removing the brushes from the motor be careful as the brushes are small & held in by small springs, to clean the brushes a pencil ereaser will work but to remove scratches sandpaper will work, only use a pencil eraeser on the armature to clean the plates or very smooth emery cloth & never use sandpaper on the armature or you may kill the armature!!
