Indentifying an older Lionel steamer pilot???

It is not at all a rare part, since 2026s and their ilk are so common. I would start it at the lowest price that is worth your trouble, with no reserve, and let the market decide.

The pilot I have is like the one on the newer 2026. The 2026 I had I think was the older one but my memory is fuzzy.
How much should I list my pilot for? Paint has come off in several spots but I'm sure it could be touched up.

The picture for the 2026 is the earlier 2-6-2 (prairie) version. There is no picture there for the later 2-6-4 (Adriatic) version. However, look at the locomotives listed as "prairies". (Lionel incorrectly identified them by that name; and the web site perpetuates the Lionel terminology.) Most of them used the same casting as the later 2026. You may also find your part on some completely different locomotive; so I would recommend checking them all out.

Hello Boyd! It would depend on what year your 2026 was made. The first versions were made from 1947-49. After that the 2026 became the 2036 & in 1951 the 2026 was brought back without the Nickel Rimmed Drive Wheels for the Korean War version.The Pilots were different on both the early & late versions and this is important to know in order to Identify your pilot. Back in the late 80s I ordered a pilot ( 1 casting, cowcatcher, cylinders, steps all in one casting) used from either Train World or Trainland. It was for my Lionel 2026 and the dummys sent the wrong one. Well me the dummy didn't catch the mistake right away so I could return it in the time allowed and get my money back. Now I want to sell it on ebay but I'm unsure as to what it fits. It was close to the front of the 2026 but would not fit. I don't have any pictures of this one.
