Do they work on plunger of does it take a track operating section?

One other thing to look at is the wheels and make sure that they are free of dirt and the contacts underneath the car at point of contact, also is the track clean? Run your finger over the track if it gets darkened you have dirt build-up & need to clean the track even the unloading track needs attention at times.
I say if all else fails use a 275 watt ZW instead of the 1033 as the ZW has more power.

If the cars have been sitting for a long time, or the dump mechanism not operated, its possible that the selonoid may be gummed up and in need of cleaning. Taking the bin off the car isn't difficult but sometimes a third hand is helpful when reassembling.

If you take it apart just be sure to lay out the pieces in an orderly fashion or even make a sketch.

I am running on track voltage. I am using a 1033 transformer now and it operates my set and pulls 12 heavy cars with no problem. I never need full power to pull the train. When I tried the dump cars they were the only cars on the track and I had the transformer at top power. the uncoupling feature works fine. the accessory track I am using is prewired, I do have one with screw terminals which I think can be wired for fixed voltage. thanks, John

A few questions. Will you uncoupling track open the couplers on your cars? Are you powering your uncoupling tracks with track power, or fixed voltage? Fixed voltage is usually prefered. If using variable voltage, or track power, which it sounds like you are, I wonder if your transformer has enough power? Can you take everything off the track except the dump car, and still not be able to dump the load with your transformer at full power? Just some simple items to check, before getting into more complicated repairs.

I recently got a 1950's coal dump car and log dump car. Both are in great shape. When I try to operate them the actuator does not have enough power to dump without the load. If I help it it will dump. The actuator works fine by itself. I tried it with full transformer voltage and still won't dump. the mechanisms on the cars work easy with no binding. What am I missing? Thanks, John
