Christmas at last!
Posted by tjsprague on Saturday, January 21, 2006 8:43 AM
I was late getting the new Christmas layout put together. Even later in posting photos. But it still puts a smile on my face.

New Christmas Layout

1x4 benchwork with 2" foam over. A simple layout for trains of a simpler era.

Lionel and Ives electrics were running this day.

Yes, I mean running!

"But Dad, where's the video game system?"

My son T.J. in what used to be used to be my home office. 2006 will see it turned into more of a playroom/study.

People like you are selling me hook, line and sinker on the whole 0 gauge scene! The pictures are a great encouragement and a very useful sales tool:- "Oooh look dear!"

Its funny how on a scale HO layout anything slightly toy like stands out like a sore thumb whereas with O one can have all sorts of things coexisting peacefully and they seem absolutely right!

I used to spend ages 'weathering' and incorporating the rather chunky baseplates of Faller operating accessories like the watermill to make it seem natural (which is never successful with real water in HO) but on the floor we have Asherahs MegaBloks Castle and Lego Duplo integrated with the train loop and it doesnt really seem all that incongruous.

Boy, I wish I'd paid closer attention years ago! O gauge is great!

Thanks so much for sharing these pictures! Your layout is simply fantastic! I love classic tinplate layouts like this one! People can say all they want about super detailed trains and command control, but one look at your pictures and I certainly know where my heart is!

Tim--

The layout looks great, nice clean lines and lots of action without looking overcrowded. It's never out of season to share Christmas layout pic's. Thanks!!
