Old Lionel Ad on Comcast "On Demand" Cable TV
Posted by Jumijo on Tuesday, January 17, 2006 6:39 AM
This past weekend, I came across an old B&W 1960's Lionel ad on the On Demand section of Comcast's cable menu. The ad was for the rocket launching car with a mercury capsule. The ad showed that car, plus the cherry picker car being used in closeups. It finished with the rocket being launched, then a slow moving train rolling by with many other Lionel freight cars. Super O track was used. The ad was narrated and had some rather dramatic background music. All in all, it was pretty cool. Here's what you need to do to see the ad:

Select channel 1 (On Demand menu)

Scroll all the way down to the second page

Click on the "Cutting Edge" bar

Click on the "Something Weird" bar

Click on the "Sci Fi Shorts" bar

Click on the "Sci Fi Commercials" choice.

The Lionel ad is roughly 5 - 10 minutes into a string of old tv commercials with a sci fi theme. My kids made me replay it about 15 times before I finally told them enough already.

Enjoy the show.

Tom, glad you got to see it in Ohio. I was afraid it was a regional thing with different programming in different areas. I wonder if my buddy down the street, Dr. Tinker had anything to do with that ad.

Jim,

That was too cool! Brings back some great memories. Looks like there were no "truth in adverstising" regulations back then!
