Mike S,

They need a 9v battery for shut and dead spots.
Try a fresh 9v rechargeable NiMH.

For low sounds;
Try adjusting the volume control on the engine.

What transformer are you using?
The horn button may be sending the wrong signal.
Check the voltage at the track.
Sometimes the sounds don't fully kick in until a certain voltage.

I bought this engine from the club a few years ago and tested it a couple of times in command on a small loop (got the upgrade). Just put on the tracks and it behaves weird in conventional. Don't have command set up yet but in conventional all the sounds are really, really, low. Also when I hit the horn button the gg1 just stops.
Popped the top and the 9v looks to be pretty dead. Wondering if a fresh one is all that's needed or is this a bigger problem. And yeah, I don't happen to have a fresh 9v around now unfortunately.
Do these locos need the 9v even in conventional

thanks,
Mike S.
