Future K-Line Blowouts, but what about the warrenty??

Everyone is talking about getting some good bargains in the K-Line mess. My only question is once these items are purchased and they are defective, where do they go for repair?

Try emailing K-Line first, then maybe a phone call to K-Line. I have found K-Line to be very helpful with any problem I have had.

I agree with Tom. Caveat Emptor. I liken it to picking up something at a going-out-of-business sale. These are extra units being dumped by the manufacturer / distributor because they weren't paid for them. I guess you trade the price vs. no-warranty.

I have not had any problems getting stuff fixed by Lionel.
I had sent out two engines because of motor problems and they were taken care of quickly and returned in about aweek. As long as you call get a verification number have a receit you're good to go. No charge.

And therein lies the long-term problem. Yes, you can buy them for rock-bottom prices now, but what about the future when service or repairs become an issue? Basically, if/when K-Line goes under, you'll likely be on your own, and no amount of moaning and groaning on a forum is going to get your trains fixed UNLESS a potential buyer of K-Line's assets decides he wants to honor previous warranties. At this point, that is very much up in the air, especially since a buyer hasn't even been identified (except through speculation).

I have had problems with getting Lionel to acknowledge a problem with the switch # 6-23011, the problem is that I can not run Williams or certain older LIonel locomotives thru the switch, I have talked with Lionel & Lionel Service or repair places and no one will tell me what is wrong with these switches or will Lionel tell me to send one in for repair. Have read the instruction manual for the switches and was using correct voltage and track insulating pins in proper place. Other problem I had with Lionel equipment is I bought a brand new GP-7 diesel and it would not pull four Lehigh Valley quad hoppers very slowly. I should have enuff power as I am using a 275 watt post-war transformer. Sold the GP-7 on ebay as I was totally disapointed with its performance.

This is why I like to deal locally for my engines and electronics. The Lionel dealer here in Watkinsville, Memory Station, is a factory authorized repair shop. He does the repairs on site and has the direct phone numbers for the Lionel techs. if needed. He also has done a K-line repair for me after I asked him to trouble shoot an engine, he gave K-line a call and they sent him the parts no charge.
