Pre-war 238 steamer help[?]
Posted by Anonymous on Thursday, January 12, 2006 5:43 AM
Hi there, I asked this question awhile back maybe someone could help.I have a 238 shell im looking for a motor that would fit into it. Ive tried a few lionel steamers but they wont fit .Can any one help with a motor that will slip in under the shell.I really would like the engine number so i could pick one up on ebay and swap the shells.Im not looking to restore it just make it run with a 238 shell. I have tried Warrens and Olsens already.[%-)][sigh][?]

I would follow a few 238E auctions on ebay and examine the photos of the underside onf the engine. Use that knowledge to look at loose prewar motors on ebay and you may/will find one.

I would bet it is similar to a 264/265E motor but may have some sheetmetal brackets to mount it to the underside of the shell.

I always wanted to take a 238 and put a 224 motor in it. If I find a shell for cheap enough, it still may happen.

Good luck
Dennis

Hello Richard! Give the Train Tender in Pittsford,NY a try. Go to their website; Get the phone# & ask Jeff if he may have one. Another place to try is George Tebolt and he has a website also. Good Luck & let us know what happens.
