I live in Indianapolis, IN, too bad it is a few hours away or I would go down there and check it out. I really dont see anyone getting this layout out of the house without a subtantial amount of damage. You might come out of that house with a few bridges, some track, a turntable, some buildings, and a huge back pain for a few weeks.

Coming out with a nice layout after taking it all apart and cutting it down... That would be something I would chalk up as a miracle.

I took apart a 2 rail O gauge layout bigger than that one about 5 years ago. Basically got it for the tables to re-use. All the track was hand laid and I sold the rail for about $125.00 and got 2 hand made wood stock cars with it and salvaged the uncompleted turntable. Sold a Lionel engine shell for less than $50. It was a lot of work to cut apart the tables, haul them downstairs to my truck outside and store them. I got the layout for free, didn't pay for it, nor was I paid to take it out, though I enjoyed myself doing it. How many people have a place that big to fit that layout in the way it sits. They will be lucky to meet the reserve and sell it. If I were them and got an offer of $300 I would jump for it.

But they always know what was spent and what it is worth. Very nice bridges. Too bad most of the guys detail work will be destroyed trying take this apart. Nice plan though. I would say they are putting the house up for sale and want to get rid of the layout before putting it on the market.

Interesting way to sell a layout. I'm not sure if it's a good deal or not. I look at in terms of salvage, because most people don't have a space that size or shape anyway. The track may actually be worth close to the bid. Add in the turntable and roundhouse for more than $300.

Go in there remove all of the track and structures, and set them aside. Reduce the lumber to flat pieces, and it should easily fit in a full sized pickup.

The guy seems to think that since that portable ping pong table is going for over $2000 that this is a bargian for $1000. The problem is this has to be taken apart and reassambled. It might be worth $1000 if it was sitting in my basement assembled, but here you are really buying the parts that you have to disassemble, move through a regular size door and then try to put back together. Guess it depends how it was built but I doubt it is a modular, easy to move design.

It will probably cost the owner/seller $500 to $600 to pay someone to remove it and leave an undamaged house.

I hope some local train buff offers to remove it in exchange for getting it free. If I lived close I would email the seller and propose that, in case it doesn't sell. Then it would be worth the effort.

It does seem overpriced considering it's going to be a big job to remove it. Hopefully someone locally can buy it and remove it, I can almost imagine that the family will have to remove it in the long run.
