Rob,
I purchased them on ebay and that is what the seller told me that they were early Williams. They appear to have traction tires no reverse or horn. I believe they have many hours on them. I paid $112.00 for them don't know if it is a good price or not.

We use both, too, as cbq1199a does. If they really are early Williams, they will have no traction tires or flywheels, and they're pretty fast, so that is a consideration in your operation!

I wired the dual can motors on our two F-7 sets in series to slow them down, but that created an open differential problem/issue as the power was then routed to the wheels/truck with the least traction. This I solved with carefully securing thin traction tires (from Stewart's Products) with CA on the inboard wheelsets of each power truck.

I run these for hours on end on our Christmas layout at very slow speeds. My son calls the UP F-7s the "quiet diesel"! I do the maintenance about once every two years - tear down the power trucks, Lucas Red 'N Tacky #2 on the gears, Mobil One on the axles.

Early William's F7s are about the same size as Lionel F3s. So you can go with either Standard O (full size) or traditional (to go with your Erie 4-6-4) freight rolling stock.

For passenger cars, stick with the 65' full width/length passenger cars, like the extruded 15" streamliners made by Lionel and K-Line.
