It could have been the same thing that I found on one of my steamers. Had to pull the tender shell for battery installation and lo and behold here is one of the chips laying inside. Now was this a result of poor manufacturing or rough handling between the various shipping points, I don't know. All I do know is that it was plugged back in and it ran like champ.
In the case of AM Hobbies I have not heard of any complaints.

New Atlas RS-1

Just received my long awaited Atlas PRR RS-1 yesterday. Put it on the track, cranked up the Cab-1 and nothing happened. I thought perhaps the prog/run switch was in program. However, no such luck. After shutting down the power and then bringing it back up, I finally heard some sounds and it ran. Reversed it and the same thing occured. How frustrating after waiting over six months for delivery. I called Bob Thatcher at AM Hobbies this morning and was suprised when he said "I'll get you out another one, just return the defective unit to me" Wow, that's a dealer I want to continue to do business with. Wthe regards to the locomotive, it appears the consumer ends up being the manufactures QC and final testing facility. Isn't that a crockl.
