A penny saved is a penny earned. But every once in a while it is good to treat yourself to a gum ball.
They should have leaned on their authorized service network to have the units repaired and re-marked / identified as being serviced/corrected.

Why not simply open up the unit and fix the phasing properly and be done with it?
Which is what the service stations should have been paid(by Lionel) to do.

I would do that. If not that, cut the plug off and put on a replacement and swap the black and white wires.

Maybe, but if they don't, you can either complain about it here or fix it. I usually find that something this simple I just fix it and move on.
