Yes only one traction tire on Thomas. But It pulls enough to get annie and clarabell moving. The kids love it.To tell you the truth I was looking for a Thomas junker to paint and turn into a yard switcher.Im also still looking for the Percy steamer lionel made but havent located it yet

Yes it is normal. Thomas is not a big puller but sometimes he surprises me. I have an older one from the 90's and a new one. The older one pulls the 2 coaches, a harold the helicopter depressed flat with a diecast harold on it and a made up flat car with diecast trucks and a james and percy pullback toys mounted on it. It pulls them with no problem. Just tried the new one tonight pulling the expansion set with no problems without annie and clarabel. Annie and clarabel are out of action till I get new couplers. Lionel uses a brass pin pressed on to pivot the couplers. Once it comes off, they don't go back on. They took a dive off his bed.
