Mr. Miller, do I detect a problem with your preference of forums?

Just got home from the family Christmas dinner/gift exchange and found the February CTT in my mailbox.[:)] Guess what I'm gonna do? Good night and Merry Christmas to all O-gaugers wherever you are, and bless the young Americans serving our country all over the world.

MTJ looks like a good board to me. CTT is also good but that other one I won't comment on since it is Christmas. I think Allen Miller has been drinking too much spiked eggnog.

Merry Christmas to all.I love this site and fill like you get to know some of the people semi-personally.But checking out other sites isn't taboo, because how many people here buy one particular brand of train. It's not competion but to be politicaly correct, being devesre in picking opinions of others.Nothing wrong with that. But I do like this site the best of those I've been to.[:p]

Marty,

That 's exactly the point. But I guess one can't please everybody. Does the word "curmudgeon" come to mind?

Merry Christmas to all.

I read that other forum daily and I will tell you this much: In addition to the great info available there, the modelling and scratch building skill of Norm and the others, the thoughtful and incredibly helpful posts by Chuck "the O gauge answer man", etc, there are frequent positive references to recent issues of CTT magazine and to various Kalmbach books. I think that "other forum" winds up being a great free advertisement for CTT and for its publisher. Not exactly something that any business-minded publisher would want to squash by deleting this thread.

Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night.

Merry Christmas to you, Frank. And, didn't you mean sordid skills?

Anyway, I have no particular set business hours. You can call whenever. However, I still don't take credit cards but just send me a check and I'll ship same day received.

Actually, Allan, Frank is right on all counts.

Merry Christmas

It is nice to know that there are other forums out there. But it is all I can do to keep up with this one. Besides this one is great and "if it isn't broke don't fix it."

"Stick with this CTT forum. You'll find all that you need here, ..."

Well, I've always been taught that variety is the spice of life. And merely mentioning the existence of (GASP!!!!) another forum (DOUBLE GASP!!!!), shouldn't be grounds for deletion and banishment. Obviously, it is in CTT's interest to promote and expand the hobby - if a person visits this and other forums, develops and expands his/her interest and involvement in the hobby, purchases more product from advertisers (perhaps a CTT subscription too) - - well isn't that a benefit to CTT?

Each of the three forums I check regularly tend to offer varying content and diversity of opinion and thought. I find all three to be entertaining and usually civil - oddly enough, MTJ strikes me as the most open-minded, light-hearted, and civil of the three (CTT second), despite the frequent references to "elsewhere", which wouldn't be made if a few folks/moderators there weren't so full of themselves and censor-focused.

The O guage world is plenty large enough for 3 (or more) major forums. Each has it's merits, and a few pitfalls. MTJ is growing stronger daily, being fueled by the increasingly OGRe-like treatment of some highly talented hobbyists. Hopefully CTT won't take a page out of that book of mismanagement and increase censorship here.

The great majority of threads move off the front page within a day (at least it seems that way to me). Unless the thread gets hostile and insulting, or is completely non-train/hobby related, why delete it? It's going to die off naturally, so let it, instead of fueling even more threads about censorship, "where'd ____ go?", etc. etc., which then creates more work for the censors, and more hostility towards the forum for the ever-increasing censorship (gee, does this sound familiar??.....)

It's a vicous circle once censorship takes hold - instead, keep the deletions to a minimum and responsibly "moderate" the forum only to keep the absolute BS and hostility off the site (that's IMHO, of course).

If nothing else, come to see posts being made by O gauge master Norm, whom the moderators of the OGR forum saw fit to ban for some stupid reason.

"Hopefully, the moderator here will see fit to delete this entire thread at some point today--an entirely appropriate course of action in my opinion."

That's something you will NOT find on the forum Allan Miller is bashing.

My advice: Stick with this CTT forum. You'll find all that you need here, and conducted in a civil manner without all the badmouthing of individuals and other forums (which seems to dominate the content on the referenced site).

Besides, it has long been considered very bad Internet form to promote a discussion forum on another owner's site, which is precisely what is being done in this thread (akin to "Newsweek" running full page ads in "Time" or OGR running ads in CTT). That should give you a pretty good indication of what you would be in for.

If you're interested in toy trains and their history and operation, consistent with this forum's mission and the mission of its related magazine, then you're far better off sticking around here and sharing your hobby interest with others through civil and appropriate discourse.

Hopefully, the moderator here will see fit to delete this entire thread at some point today--an entirely appropriate course of action in my opinion.

Some fine folk, crafty craftsmen and hobos or sorted skills and backgrounds are known to frequent that forum.

Far and away one of the best two O-Gauge forums.
