Poor Man's Polar Express

Having trouble finding the Lionel set? Want a cheaper version of the train to have fun with? Looking for a gift for a kid who liked the movie? Check out this battery operated train set.

Okay, so it's called the "North Pole Express", but it's quite obvious what train it is based on. While of course there are plenty of differences between this train and the real Polar Express, the biggest one is the passenger cars, which are 1800's-style wooden ones. I have battery operated sets like this one and they run on O gauge track and have knuckle couplers that will mate with both Lionel and Marx ones. I've never actually seen this train for sale anywhere, but just came across it today on ebay.
