HO train engine derailing at a switch
Posted by Anonymous on Monday, December 12, 2005 7:41 AM
My engine keeps derailing on an Atlas switch. The engine derails where the switch curves in and connects to a 15" radius piece of curved track. The switch and curved track are joined by two insulated rail joiners.

The track seems to be smooth on top where the two section of track meet. Could the two insulated rail joiners be the problem or is there something else I need to look at?

Please advise. Thanks.

You may get a better response here:

Part of problem sounds like tight radius track right at the turnout w/out a straightaway

Remove the turnout; add a short straight and a wider radius curve and see if the derailment persists. If so, the switch is the problem; if not, the track radius is the problem
