I have two CTT Layout books and the CTT book on basic wiring. Credit where credit is due, they are excellent resources.

Neil, thanks for the clarificatrion regarding timing, etc. Overall, the book is very good. I try to find layouts that can be built without many cut to order pieces of track. I was looking for that type of layout in Fastrack. (I have even written to Lionel suggesting that it post some more advanced Fastrack layouts on its website similar to the "O" and "O-27" diagrams available at Lionel.com.) The layout you featured with the army officer in a recent issue is the type of track plan that I was anticipating. Not being familiar with the publishing business I did not understand the lead time necessary to bring a book to completion.

Would any of the online track plans that you market have the type of layout that I am seeking?

Both your new book and your earlier command control book were lucid and easy to read . Thanks.

You doubted there would be a Lionel Train Company to deliver Fast Track? [:O]

Hello all, I spoke to a friend that owns a dealership up north. A new book with lots of information on Fastrack is due out in the next few months. I too have Neils book, a good one, it includes plenty of ideas that we can adapt with the information on fastrack that is soon to be available. As Neil aluded to above, this is new product and it seems every few months they are adding to it. Ten years down the road you may find a book that has it all, but until then, you will have to get information from several sources and experiment. I too am building a layout in Fastrack. It is inspiring to see great plans on the pages of CTT.

Eriefireman,

I wrote the book in summer of 2004 although it wasn't out in stories until spring of 2005. FasTrack was available in starter sets in the summer of 2004, but Lionel had not yet delivered all of the wider curve sections, some fitter sections, and even, if I recall correctly, automatic track switches (I'm pretty certain that only manual O-36 switches were available in hobby shops in mid-2004).

At the same time the MTH-Lionel case was peaking, which created extra uncertainty concerning the timely availability of FasTrack.

Since didn't want to create a track plan that someone couldn't readily build, I chose not to include a FasTrack plan.

Today, 1 1/2 years later, it's a different story and FasTrack in different diameter curves, etc., is available. CTT has published several FasTrack plans in recent issues.

Sincerely,

New CTT train layout book

Recently I purchased the new train layout book written by CTT editor Neil B. thinking that it would have layouts utilizing Lionel Fastrack. Although Fastrack is discussed in the first chapter, none of the layouts illustrated in the subsequent layout specific chapters. Very disappointlng.
