Test the engine by touching the positive wire to the center contact and the negative to the drive wheel.Next be sure the drive wheels are really clean on the locomotive. If you tested like this you next need to check the connections to the tracks.Positive to center rail, negative to the outer one..Next look at the track. Is it silver or a dull grey.If it is dull grey try cleaning the top of the rails with an abrasive track cleaner eraser. (Bright Boy).I use a twelve volt bulb and pigtail assembly to next see if power is going to the track. With the transformer on and the speed control about mid way through its arc, touch the wires of the test lite to the track. One to the center and one to the outside rail(ether one to each rail as the light will work either way). The light should come on.At this point it is time to nudge the engine a little with your hand.Sometimes you just have to get it going, especially if it has set for a long time.Let it run around until it goes all the way by itself.I really advise new track (Lionel or K-Line) as it really is not that expensive. NOTE: Most Marx transformers I have seen only have two terminals and as long as you only run older stuff on them the Positive and negative wires can be reversed,so if you don't know which is which ,it doesn't matter. Also if the lock-on has been in the track for a long time remove it and re-insert it. There are two types. If you can see the contacts at the track end it snaps down at the middle rail.If you can"t see contacts against the rails,it pulls straight down out of the rails.

See my three responses on the GR forum.

"U" and "A" for knob "A", "U" and "B" for knob "B".
See the part about lubrication.
I would have e-mailed you, but you failed to put an e-mail address in your profile.

Connect the #1 wire to the A and the #2 wire to the U. This will have the A throttle on top of the transformer run the trains.

Good Luck

Be sure to check the power cord from the transfomer to the 110 Volt outlet for any cracks. If the cord does have cracks, it should be replaced.
