grumpy - Olsen's can help you with the wire. You can also try authorized Lionel repair shops in your area.

Go to Olsen's site. The schematic diagrams are there.

For the 282: http://pictures.olsenstoy.com/searchcd31.htm?itm=278

The 282R mechanical differences are shown here: http://pictures.olsenstoy.com/cd/accs/acc282r1.pdf

The Doctor is In !!! grumpy4, I found what you are looking for: Page #468 of K-Line's
Complete Service Manual for Lionel Trains is the operation & repair pages for the crane. This is what you need to fix and run your crane. I cannot send you this via email(I have not mastered the scanner yet) I can photocopy them for you or you are better off buying the book or the Greenburg repair book. Both are worth the money if you run Post-War Lionel. Hope this helps!

Need Help Rewiring a 282 Operating Gantry Crane

I need to rewire my 282 because the original wires (5 way) dried out and are shorting. Can anyone provide me a wiring diagram for the 282? Is there one in the CTT article in the Feb 2000 volume on p. 130?

[8D]Thanx for the pointers to repair data. The diagram from Olsens is very readable..

Where do people usually purchase multi strand ribbon wire, 18 or 22 gauge braided?
