Hello Amfleet ! In 1974 The first Modern Engine Lionel came out with was a General Electric UB-36 or otherwise known as a U-Boat and it was decorated in Union Pacific colors. In 1978 a Milwaukee Road SD-18 was next. Followed by the SD-40 series Santa Fe Diesel in 1982 in a Yellow and Blue color scheme. They made quite a few SD-40s in the 1980's. Hope this helps.

Could some people tell me when Lionel started making "modern" locomotives like SD4-'s C30-7's AC400 etc etc? 70's? 80's?
