Why neither - electric traction of course. I do have both of the other breeds and like them as well but am afflicted with the traction bug.

I prefer steam myself , Although I do have a couple of Diesels- A GP-9 and a NW-2. A steam turbine makes a swoosh sound as opposed to a Chugging sound a regular steam engine would make.

Same here, which seems "right" for my 50's themed layout. Joe

Anyone here know what a steam turbine sounds like?

Does it Chuff and puff or does it sound more like a turbine sound?

I have an old Penn 671 S-2 steam turbine and I am considering rail sounds for it.

I have both since I model the 50's, though I prefer the sound of a steam engine vs. the drone of a diesel. The steam engine sounds more "alive" to me and there is nothing to compare with the soulfull wail of a whistle.

I grew up with diesels.Steam looks good running but I think the diesels look more business-like and it seems to me they pull more.I do have a couple of Generals, but run 52 diesels.
