I am placing Proto 2 in my Kline Hudson and Lt. Pacific. The Lt. Pacific electronics were a little tight and replacing the smoke unit to have sync. puffs required some creativity.

Hey Chris,
I converted my K-Line GG1 to TMCC with a Digital Dynamics kit. Works like a charm. I think you'd have some trouble with a PS2 conversion as the flywheels are very thin and there's not much room between the motors. Even adding full RS 4.0 is very tight. I hear TAS does a nice job, if you want to farm it out.

I haven't added sound yet - I'll probably just add a sound commander from Electric Railroad, when they add an electric sound board to the line...

Good Luck,

If I recall correctly, MTH has said that you can install PS2 into non MTH enignes but some features may not work. Such as SMPH as the fly wheel my not be the correct dia and the gearing is wrong. Also if it was a steamer, without a fan driven smoke unit, the the proto-smoke may not work.

The upgrade kit is about $179 and another $125 to install it. You may be better of just buying an MTH with PS2 or converting it to TMCC and run it thru the DCS - TMCC command.

ProtoSounds 2 in K-Line Engine?
Posted by Anonymous on Saturday, November 26, 2005 4:13 PM
Hello Everyone, I hope someone can help me out with a question. I have K-Line GG1 Engine that I bought about three years ago. It's one of the smoothest running engines I have. However, it has no Command control or sounds system installed. I've been thinking about upgrading it and putting in a ProtoSounds 2 upgrade kit in it. Does anyone know if this is possible since its not MTH made?

Thanks for any suggetions!

Chris
