best way to quiet a noisy track/train

how do i "dumb" down the noise of my lionel train? i have a simple oval mounted to a piece of particle board,(its going under the tree)i did primer/paint the board before applying track,the type track i'm using: K-Line track ( O gauge) any info would be great, thanks.

mount the track on foam or cork roadbed.
