The 1666 was really an O-27 engine and built prior to the days of the non-derailing switch. It is possible that a slide shoe may get hung up on certain switches but most times it's because they aren't seated properly. Also with wear a slide shoe will get a distinctive groove in the center.. These are available from the parts guys and you should keep some on hand.

northernpike,
I have a 1666 with the slide shoe pick-ups. No problems on postwar O22 switches. It's a great running engine, not a great puller, no magnetraction.

northern - I had hoped someone might provide you a definitve answer by this time. I do not have a way to help you although from my limited knowledge of the 1666 with slide pickups, I cannot see a reason mechanically that would cause any problem.

Good luck!
Roy
