Does the shell seat easily against the chasis? If it feels mushy when you place the shell on the chasis, a wire may be getting pinched. Check the wire that goes to the light and the wire that goes to the smoke unit. Check the smoke unit to see if it is pinching wires. The smoke unit sits tightly against the shell and there is not a lot of room for wires. Even though you taped the shell, the wires can still short against the chasis when pinched.

Good Luck,

Hello Tom.

Check to see any hot wires are touching any of the the body mounting screws. some of the top mounts on Postwar steamers can get pretty close to the always- hot field windings.

If all fails, I can trouble shoot for you...

I have a 1666 postwar-runs great when the shell is off. When I put the shell on, it shorts. Slider rollers get hot, light wont work, engine does not even click or move. I taped the inside of the shell w/33 electrical tape in case something was touching-Help
THanks
