If you had the money to invest, which Lionel Postwar train or accessory would you buy?

I'd buy the infamous 1956 model of the Class J 4-8-4.

If I were looking for an investment, I wouldn't be buying trains. Real Estate! WATERFRONT Real Estate!

Now THAT's and investment!

A lot of waterfront real estate five years ago is now underwater real estate. Up here in MA, the coast line is receding at an alarming rate. People who had long sandy beaches just a few years ago are now just a few feet from the ocean. I'll pass on that investment, thank you.

Invest? I wouldn't buy trains as an investment in anything other than happiness :)

If I had to pick one postwar item to receive as a "freebee", I think it would be an original congressional set.

ditto on it is not an investment. Enjoy them and do not leave them on a shelf. Collect what you like. I go from the scale new stuff on the 1st level to the traditional post war on the third.

If I had the money to spend, I'd really like to have a set of the green 2400 streamlined passenger cars.

As far as investments, I'm just a dumb construction worker, so any advice I'd give should be taken with a shovel full of salt [:D]

I'd go with the same three engines that Jim has listed above. The 773, 726 and the 671. I'm hoping to find one or all at a resonable price to refurbish.

I would imagine there should be some bargins along the Gulf coast if you really want some waterfront property. As far as trains, I would consider buying the CP set mint in the box.[:)]

All Lionel all the time.

I'd definitely have to go for the rarest of them all...the Boy's Train.
