I recently restored an old engine I had when I was a kid. I discovered it was a 685 from the 50s with a 8603 shell (Fundamensions C&O 1976). I repainted it in flat black Krylon-match excellent-then used white dry transfers for the 685. Dry transfers come in a sheet with several sizes/fonts. I then gave the engine several coats of Testors Dullcote to seal and protect the transfers. They are durable as the stamps. The transfers were $5, Dullcoat around $4 and Krylon I found laying around.
Just an idea, and it was tons of fun.

I am in the process of restoring a lionel 675 locomotive. The stamp numbers are in bad shape, and i would like to repair them. How can I accompli***his? Are there stamps available? Paint kits?
