My 5x8 layout is covered in a medium grey-green, tight-pile carpet with unsecured FasTrack on top. It provided a pleasing-looking surface while I was covering most of it with scenic "modules". Just has the wood base under it. You'll need to be satisfied with a flat layout. Since mine is small, and has a "urban" theme, it works for me. Joe

I'm thinking about using industrial gray carpet on my layout. Those of you that
have this, how good dose it reduse the noise the trains make? And do you put anything under the carpet (i.e. foam board, carpet backing.....)
