Finally, I have my CTT! The mail just takes a little longer to get to SW Georgia than the rest of the world. I have yet to open it, but look forward to spending this rainy day with my eyes on trains.

It must be. It's only 14" long and 4" high. The newer ones by Lionel are much bigger. The JLC GG1 is 16" long. The Williams GG1 sounds like a very good deal. My guess is they are going to sell a lot of them!

I loved this issue and have come to call CTT my favorite mag.

The attic layout was great, but not for me...if I can avoid it. Many people struggle with space with this hobby, not just me.

Contrary to popular belief, many americans have smaller homes or apartments. The notion that our housing is uniformly big is simply not true. I have friends with N or HO layouts that slide out from under their beds because they simply have no room because they couldn't afford a big "American" homes. Mine is jammed in a small, freezing garage. The wife and I are supposed to close on a house at the end of December. This house will have a basement and a modest amount of space for a train room--as long as I can efficiently store our other items efficiently elsewhere.

Yes, room seems to be a universal problem.

One more thing, when I was in the Netherlands I was amazed at how wonderfully integrated trains are in your country. I got off the TGV from Paris at Amstersam's terminus and the airport was directly above me. I transferred to a local commuter train and was in downtown Amsterdam in no time. Be sure to tell your fellow countrymen and fellow Europeans how lucky they are to have such a great train system. Tell them there are some of us in America who wish we still had a functional passenger system.

We Americans spend billions of dollars subsidizing the air industry and continually ignore rail traffic. If the fat cats in Washington stopped propping up the failed air industry, maybe my trips from Indiana to Pennsylvania would be on a TGV instead of an 11-hour car ride in dense traffic.

PS Nobody can fly a bullet train into a building. It only goes where the rails do.

I do appreciate the SG info. About the feature article, though, could we not at least have seen the Ives and Flyer collections? Ives info especially isn't as plentiful as it could be in the general hobby press, and, though the shift CTT has made is probably necessary, there remain collectors out here that CTT claims to serve "For the Collector and the Operator"). I'm not trying to be too critical--anything on SG these days is welcome.

OK, now I'm finished. The two, on-page Standard Gauge articles were a very nice touch.

Another great issue. If it had only come out sooner. I just finished scratchbuilding a girder bridge that would have looked better, had I read the 5x9 layout article beforehand. I would have made it a trapazoid instead of a rectangle.

No need for replacement. I got my copy today in fine shape. Great issue! I loved the "S" gauge layout. I confess to have looked for the third rail! I first thought it was Lionels FastTrak instead of S-helpservice. at first Was this layout at the NMRA convention?

The Polar Express Berkshire has been on our display layout (you may recall the two-level desert and Christmas project layout we ran in the magazine in 1999 or so) in our offices, and has been regularly for visitors. It has run fine and the only problem we thought we had - was actually a transformer wire issue. It has been a real crowd pleaser running through the Christmas village.

Note to dtpowell, if you receive damaged copies, call our customer service number and they'll send you a new copy.

I haven't recevied mine to date. I wish CTT would start shipping them in the plastic wrappers like they used to. My issues have been coming late and sometimes a little damaged. As if someone at the post office is looking thru it first. My local hobby shop has them before do.

I have two more years on my subscription. I may not renew my subscription in order to get a copy quicker and in better condition. I look forward to receiving each issue of CTT. I have every copy.

Lionel hasn't shipped us anything in more than a year. I did go out a few weeks back and bought a Lionel 0-4-0, which will be reviewed in the near future.

I received mine on Saturday, a nice treat for the holiday weekend.

When I first picked it up I thought it was a bit thin, however, it had excellent featured layouts and Christmas putz' to boot and it was not overwhelmed by ads. The reviews of yet more diesels is either a sign most are going diesel or CTT needs to go out and buy/burrow some modern Lionel steam to review. Personally, diesel reviews are a waste of space.

I have to say that over the past year CTT has been getting better and better, especially with coverage of well-done layouts (these are the ones that inspire to build). Please keep this aspect up.

Here in New Zealand my CTT used to arrive quite quickly in spite of coming via Germany! (Germany!!!!!!!!). Now I am not sure where it comes from, outer space maybe, as it takes a week longer. than it used to I don`t expect the January issue here for another week or so. Time will tell.

Been putting up Christmas decorations all afternoon [after returning from Todd's Train Depot]. Just went to mailbox as drove in from going to dinner [Combo fried chicken and pork ba-be-que [:D]], My January issue was in there. [:D] Now sit back and enjoy. OH, have lighted Christmas train on my back roof.
