Hunting for a Briti***rain for my Layout
Posted by Anonymous on Sunday, October 16, 2005 9:33 AM
SInce these tend to be rare on this side of the pond, I am looking for either a Ace Trains LNER A4 pacific the Mallard, or a Bassett Lowke rebuilt Royal Scot. My whole layout is set in the dickensville theme and I really want to get a proper Briti***rain running on it but am on a tight budget, used is prefered but new is also good if the price is right. Thanks Mike and Michele T

You might try contacting Weaver Models. http://www.weavermodels.com They were offering the Mallard with a set of British coaches. Ebay is also a great souce. Best of luck!

i will contact them, but with the horrible exchange rate, I need a place with a layaway policy to afford the loco, let alone the beautiful cars. Thanks MIke

Here's a comapny in New Zealand that may have more Ace trains availble. http://www.railmaster.co.nz It's a great eye candy site if anything!

Mike:
I don't know of any dealers in North America, but next April we will be having the Great Briti***rain Show in Brampton, near Toronto. Lots of dealers and British collectors and modellers. (Won't get you anything for Christmas!)
You could start with an old Hornby set -- really toy but traditional.

As mentioned above, John Agnew at Railmaster (railmaster.co.nz) may be able to help you. Also, Britannia Models up in the Vancouver BC area has quite a large catalog of UK outline trains in multiple gauges (as well as books and mags). The site is Britanniamodels.com

I have been to both sites, real nice eye candy, I really like the Ace trains Mallard with the bow ended teak coach set behind it. I dont anything except for bassett lowke on ebay or ebay uk. I will keep looking till funds improve. I used to have a c/w basset lowke Duke of York, but my overhead line is long and it only would make 3/4 of a loop before running out of energy. Always wanted to convert it to powered. If Ace would pick up the pace I would order one of the GWR Castle class locos they are planning. I would love to see a 57xx pannier tank in 3R tinplate! Thanks for all the great responces. MIke

I would start to search on european ebay sites. On ebay.de (germany) is a lot of 0 gauge available, sometimes even the english ones.
On ebay.co.uk is the english site, also you can try there.
In europe the bassetlowke models are also scarce, so be prepared for really spicy prices..
Daan. I'm Dutch, but only by country...
