Posting Pictures
Posted by Anonymous on Thursday, October 13, 2005 8:24 AM
I am not very computer literate, so I need ALL the help I can get. I take my pictures with a 35mm camera and have them put on a CD. My question is; how do I get them off the CD, onto the computer, and post them on the forum? Do I need a special program (if so what do I need) or do I need some other special instructions to tell the computer what to do? I have already printed out the posting instructions.

Howdy. I'll email our inhouse [maybe outhouse expert [;)]] Tom to get with you. He knows picture posting and etc. Good luck.

Let's start at the beginning...
What kind of computer - PC or Macintosh?
Does it have a CD drive?
If yes, open the CD drive, insert your CD that contains the image(s) you want to show us
Double left click "My Computer"
Double left click the symbol that looks like your CD disk
If you can find a list of files that end in .jpg, double left click one of the files and see if the image opens...

...let us know, and we can continue...
Small Layouts are cool! Low post counts are even more cool! NO GRITS in my pot!!!

HI Vern,

Welcome to the CTT forum and posting pics.

Jim has some good points. Mac’s are a little different from the rest of the computer word.

Does your computer have a CD reader so there is a place to put your disk?

If so, do as Jim says and place the disk in it.

I like using Shutterfly as a host for my pics. By loging onto their site at www.shutterfly.com you can open an account. When you get to the point of ‘adding pictures’ their software will download the program for uploading your pictures to there host. Best part is IT’S ALL FREE.

When you do get to the part of ‘adding pictures’ in shutterfly, it will have a window to ask where the pics are at. By clicking on ‘my computer’ you will see the “D drive” where you CD is. By clicking on it, shutterfly will display you pics on the CD, at that point just mark the ones you wi***o upload.

After uploading them follow the instructions for post pics.

hope this helps

On a side note,

It does not work with the Yahoo! browser!
But it does work with Internet Explorer

By the way, if you want to save a few bucks on a photo CD, send Shutterfly your exposed 35mm film and they'll develop, scan, and post the pictures directly to your account for about $4. You also get your negatives back. You can then post the pictures as you wish and order prints directly from Shutterfly.

I have been meaning to give their service a try, as most of the photos I take are with my Canon A-1 SLR.

By the way, if you plan on taking a bunch of photos that no one other than the forum members would have an interest in seeing, it might be in your best interest to buy a cheap digital camera. There are some halfway decent ones available for $100, and, although their image quality can leave a lot to be desired, they're okay for internet postings. I wouldn't ever get rid of my A-1, but there are times when I wouldn't use anything but the digital.
