A Lionmaster one was on sale on OGR Buy and Sale board a week or so ago. Check it out. Scoll down and find it.

Buy a PS1 version [usually at real good prices] and convert it to TMCC [buy a plug in board] and is cheaper than a new MTH PS2.

I don't think you should limit yourself to just the Lionel one. All I run is TMCC, but I really think the MTH SD-80MAC is the best model of the two brands.

I had the Lionel version, but there was something about it that bothered me (too small fuel tank and some weird upward bend in the section of the long hood.)

About 2 years ago I picked up an MTH Conrail Proto 1 piece at an extremely good price from an auction. The proportions are just right.

MTH has recently re-released the SD-80MAC with Proto 2 and additional detailing. I haven't seen one, but I am sure it will satisfy your craving for massive power. Jim's Trainshop in Homer City, PA seems to have one in stock. You can check out his website at www.jimstrainshop.com.

Good luck,

Fred

Lionel says they cant help me locate the loco! Maybe ill be going with the AtlasO gp60 instead. I emailed AtlasO with a few questions ans their response was lightning fast and top notch. If thats the customer service that i can expect from Atlas they may have founf a new customer.

Maybe ill wait to get a bigger Deisel when a newer version that i like comes out and is more readily available????

Oh decisions decisions...... anyone else find that sometimes its so hard to decide which loco you want to buy????

John is right on with the speaker thing. The Black Diamond set from Lionel has the NS one and several have purchased it and were well satisfied.

Here's a shot of my SD on the layout. One tech tip for you: They come with 2 speakers in the "fuel tank". Make sure the wires from one speaker to the next form an "X", if not resolder them for proper sound. Jon

92HATCH,
Like the CHIEF says RUN them with scale or 0-27.
As far as "scale folks" I think the CHIEF has "GILLS" too[;)].

I have one of the full scale ones and most of what I run them with is O27 sized rolling stock.

This really is one big engine. I do know, though, from personal experience that it will travel on O31 curves. If you remove the lantern and bulb from O22 switches, it can also travel through the curved segment of those. It looks absolutely horrible doing either one(the fuel tank almost passes the inner rail), but it will run.

I usually run mine on O72, although it still looks bad.

I have the one that you pictured about.
Got it off Ebay for a grand total of $237.00
Runs GREAT and it is big but will take tight curves, great smoker and sound system.
It is bigger then the LIONMASTER.

The Lionmaster ones are about an inch or so shorter than the regular ones. Both are great. I have two Lionel NS big ones. They are BIG. Heavy engines and will pull. Takes big curves an switches as real long [like 18 1/2 inches].

Try trainz.com they have a wish list that you put in the item # and they send you an e-mail when one becomes available. I was able to get a lionmaster class A that way after it had been out a few years.

Want to buy a Lionel SD-80MAC.... Where can I find one????
Posted by 92hatchattack on Monday, October 3, 2005 1:19 PM
Im looking to buy a Lionel SD-80MAC diesel this holiday season and i just have a few questions.

Fist off, this is a true 1:48 scale locomotive, right??? (and no im not talking about the lionmaster version) ... it will look at home with all 1:48 scale rolling stock???

Im looking to get into 1:48 scale locos and rolling stock, and im also looking to getting into TMCC/DCS ...... so my first step this year i think is to buy a locomotive, and since i dont have any deisels yet, i think this is the one i want.

The shiping year for this loco was 2002 according to the Lionel site ..... can i still purchase this loco, and does anyone know where i may be able to pick one up????

Thanks for the help!!!

---Joe
