Okay, I read the article again. Here is what does it:

"I placed [an] insulated track section in the middle of Route X and other in the middle of Route Y. You'll need to wire the outer rail of one insulated section to the post of Switch N that turns it curved. Wire the other section to the post of Switch P that turns it curved."

The wiring diagram does not show these wires--they are only mentioned in the text.

I wonder whether the connections that he shows on the diagrams are quite correct. I don't have any 022 switches to check; but I know that you would need to swap the wires to make his scheme work with a pair of Lionel O27 switches.

lionelsoni,

I agree. But if you look at the diagram, switches M,N,P and Q all start out straight and the locomotive enters the switches from the straight direction. I still do not see how the switches are turned to enter either reverse loop.

A non-derailing switch will throw automatically to accommodate a trailing-point movement, whether powered by track power or auxiliary power.

CTT Oct 05 'Quick Switcharoo' Question

The article, 'Quick Switcharoo' in CTT Oct 05, has a diagram on the bottom of pg 58. The diagram shows switch A connected to switch B and switch C connected to switch D. switches N,M,P, and Q do not show any connections. The article reinforces the drawing by stating "None of the other posts of the four new switches (M,N,P,Q) need to be connected at all!". Step 6, in the diagram, states "Train reaches switches B and D, enters route Y and turns switch P curves". How can switch P be activated with no wires going to it, other then auxillary power.
