SUPPORT
You can do your part...

CCA urges you to donate to the Red Cross, Salvation Army, or any other organization focused on disaster relief associated with Hurricane Katrina. Instead of making train related posts on the boards, put a value on your right to communicate on the internet and apply that amount to a support group.

Several fundraising events are planned in the near future.

Please do what you can to make a difference in someones life. We send our heartfelt thanks and appreciation to those who have already given.

The HiRail Times and CCA will be dark for one month to allow time to focus on the disaster relief organizations and efforts.

American Red Cross: 1-800-HELPNOW or redcross.org
The Salvation Army: 1-800-SALARMY or salvationarmyusa.org[

It has been a very tough and important week for all Americans. Personally, reading and writing train related posts on the boards is keeping me sane and away from repeated viewing of horrific images on the TV news channels. You can only watch so much in one day.

Well, as I have always said for the 15 years I've been back in the hobby - if I had $1,000.00 to spend on the type of train engine Clyde wants to see even more of, I would REALLY have $900 to give to the poor and $100 to spend on a train engine Clyde has little interest in: the ones Lionel MPC used to make and the ones Maury Klein used to make. Which are in my mind the best ones of all.

I can remember during Hurrifcane Agnes, buying an old Lionel engine that had been through the flood... it was a REAL mess, but it was restoreable and fixable and I did so without having to spend to much money on it either though it did take a lot of time. I sincerely doubt the types of engines Cylde wants to see more of could have the same exact results that I had with the much simplier Lionel locomotive.

Well, it's a big hobby and to each his own. I personally feel anyone who has so much money to spend on a single train engine for what really is a silly hobby, should be giving to the unfortunate and needy. For me, $100 is the absolute top price and I have always found locos well below that price that still give me as much fun and joy as those costing 10 or 20 times more.

Ironically, maybe the "dark" time will give all the involved parties in all the lawsuits a chance to confer and get their stories straight before posting statements and press releases that are anything but.
