At first glance this sounds like a classic case of an undersized transformer. What type are you using? Mechanical whistles require a significant amount of power to operate, and if your transformer is small, it might not be up to the job of running 2 motors at once.

Hi Joel
Thank for the reply . I have a kw from the 1960 . it can run four train at same time . I am just getting back into model railroading now that I have time . the old whiste . is just woren out from when .I had it set up for my kids . late 70's . the new whiste has printed circuit and a lot of plastic . I was thinking of switching wheel on tender for better contac on track [:)]

Oh, sorry, I didn't realize you have an electronic whistle tender. Well, if you've considered the obvious and made sure your track and wheels are clean, then you might consider temporarily connecting a pair of jumper wires from your locomotive or a lighted car to the tender and see if that improves matters. If it does, then you can probably safely say that poor pickup is the problem. I'm not sure that switching wheels would help though. I would question the center-rail pickup roller assemblies first because they only contact the rail in 1 or 2 places, depending on how many of them there are. Do the wheels have metal wipers on the axles? A lot of lighted and/or operating cars made today have them. If your tender doesn't have them, adding them might help.

Good luck in tracking down your problem.
