Lionel ZW (latest model)

I have a Lionel ZW trainsformer which I operate with 2 135 and 2 180 watt power packs. If I measure the voltage at the track with five lighted passengenr cars and a Lionel ALCo PA A-A Diesel set on the track I get a reading of 14.5 volts with the transformer control set at maxium voltage. If I connect a Throtlepack 027 transformer to the track I get a 16.5 volt reading under the same circumstances.

I did this test because I find that the maxium speed of the PA A-A set is very slow (using TMCC).

Is the ZW ok and is the PA A-A diesel just that slow?

I have no idea about the PAs but I have heard of several problems with the new ZW. I would have the power supply checked out first

All Lionel all the time.

I don't have a new ZW but I know it has a lot of programmable settings. Take a good look at the manual, you may have set the maximum voltage output to something less than the normal.

Thanks. I will have the ZW checked.
