The Trains.com site has been up for over two months now. I thought I would post some comments on the site and would like to hear others opinions.

I enjoy the Forums, specifically the Collectible Toy Trains and Model Railroading Forums. I review the Forums about twice a day for new questions or comments. The Model Railroading Forum seems to have the most activity so far.

I have been a little surprised at the lack of activity in the Garden Railroading Forum. I am not sure why there has not been more activity there. I hope that more people will begin to participate in these forums. It is a great place to get help with questions.

I also enjoy the articles being posted. Particularly in the Collectible toy Trains Section of Model Railroading. Mr. Grams articles are always interesting and well written.

I noticed that we have articles showing values for certain post war cars. The data is from the Greenberg guides. The one on the small boxcars was interesting. The one on the 6464 boxcars only covered the earliest cars. I hope they continue with the rest of the series. I have most of the Greenberg guides for Lionel and several editions of some. I usually read the Guides when I first buy them. It is nice to see segments reproduced here that I have not read for some time.

Hi Tim,

Thanks for the great advice on shelving ! You certainly did your homework on this subject. My opinion on the forum is that its a great place to share both ideas and advice from expert to novice train enthusiasts. I am back into collecting after taking a twenty five year leave of absence. I am glad the hobby of collecting is still alive and well.

Hi Hub,

I noticed the change a couple days ago. I don't yet understand how to use the "Survey" forums. I never found anything here on the site that explains how it is to be used. I initally thought it would have something to do with the surveys conducted on the Trains.con home page. I find those surveys very interesting. However, the survey data seems to disappear when a new survey is started.

A question was posted a few weeks back asking where the old surveys go. I initially thought this new page with the topic "Surveys" on it would provide a link to that old survey data.

Maybe Jim can provide us some clarification as to what this surveys section is all about?

Hi guys!

Past survey results are not yet available for viewing, but we are working on it. You may have noticed that after you vote in a current home page survey, the results are displayed every time you log on to the site. Therefore you cannot vote more than one time.

Hi Jim,

Thanks for the quick response.

Relative to being able to vote just one time. I have been able to vote more often. I have two computers, one at work and one at home. Even though I log in under the same user name, the survey does not recognize that I have already voted and I need to vote again to see the results. I have also noticed that after I erase my temperary internet files off my home PC (which I do every couple of months) I also need to vote again to see the results.

It appears that the survey places a cookie in my temporary internet files folder to identify that I have been there. This does not seem to be a big problem but someone could stuff the "ballot box" if they really wanted to.

Good idea about having more surveys. How about sending in some ideas? Or post them yourself right here to get us talking. Here's one:

"If Joshua Lionel Cowen were alive today, the next locomotive he would make would be......"

HI JIM:IF JOSHUAL LIONEL COWEN,were alive today i say he would produce a steam engine,something like a cabforward,yes lionel has the big boy,but that all in large engines,and the kids of today dont have any idea what a steam engine is or how it works,i bought a new cell phone from radio shack the other day and the your man ask what i did hobby wise,i told hime i play with and run lionel electric trains,which include the steam engine,and he asked how big,and i said one of the guy's that runs trains with our group run a BIG-BOY,HE HAD NO IDEA,WHAT I WAS TALKING ABOUT,A ND I SAY, joshual, would try to keep cost as low as possable(the steam engine).The people that come by 'TRACKSIDE TRAINS " ON WEEK END REALLY,PERK UP WHEN A STEAM ENGINE IS RUN,WITH SMOKE,BELL,AND ALL ,SOUNDS,I say he would produce a steam engine.== HUB
