The heavy oval thing sounds like a transformer.

Hi,
Thank you so much for the information.
The orange passenger cars do have numbers from 9500-9503.
The 8305 engine does have the second car with stripe that you mentioned. They seem to just be a bit dusty from their attic stay for the last thirty or so years.
A few people from Craig's List told me that they had no value but were willing to buy them. I will probably will sell them for a very good price since i"m not a collector nor do I have any interest in trains.
I do want to thank you again for taking the time to give me this information.
I also have a heavy oval piece that looks like controls of some kind. It says American Flyer Lines on the top with red and green lights. Any ideas? And of course two boxes of tracks both wide and plastic and metal and narrow.
Thanks again

Yes, they do have value. For the ones you listed, the values are as follows. The reason there is a range is because the price depends on the condition. The higher values are for ones in excellent shape. If anything is broken or there is rust, the values will be lower than what is given.

-6042 Lionel gondola car: $5-$10
-6462 NYC gondola car: $5-$20 (This depends on what colour it is. Green ones are worth more than red or black ones.)
-1060 2-4-2 steam locomotive: $15-$30 (This value includes the engine and tender. The tender is the car with coal that goes behind the engine. The tender for the 1060 should say "Lionel Lines" on it or else just be plain black with no markings.)

The above items date from the 1950's or 60's and are pretty common items. The 8305 engine dates from 1973. It's a much more desireable piece and it's value (with it's tender, which has a red stripe and says "The Milwaukee Road") is worth $95-$120. You mention other Milwaukee Road cars. Are these orange passenger cars with numbers from 9500-9506? If so, they would be worth anywhere from $30-$50 a piece.

Numbers are the key to identifying trains, so if there are any other items that you have, please list the numbers on them and I will give you the value for them also. By the way, these trains are all made by Lionel and are O gauge.

Value?

I just found a box of old trains in my attic and I'd like to know the value, if any.
Some of them say Lionel and have #, 6042, 6462, 8305, 1060
some say Milwaukee Road, are orange, and seem like plastic
Any one know?
