MTH DL 109 battery problem?
Posted by Anonymous on Sunday, August 14, 2005 5:06 PM
I have a DL 109. Every time I want to run it, I have to use my controler to reset it before it will go down the tracks. Could this be caused by the Protosound battery going dead or is this a bigger problem that I need to address? Please help.

HOw old is your battery. If it is about 4 years or more, replace it.

Lost road If the code on the battery is a number I would replace it. If it starts with an A you should replace it given your problems. I agree with Spanybird that you should replace it but wanted to give some insight on the Battery date codes. I think numbers that start with B are year 2000. C is 2001 and so on. THe MTH codes I've seen recently are G

The battery is probably dead. There's some capacitor that you can buy that holds a charge but isn't really a battery, so it won't mess up you're train. All you have to do is power up the transformer and sit the train on the track for 1 minute, and then the capacitor will hold a charge just like a battery for 5 hours or so. It probably would be better to get one of these instead of a new battery.

Lost Road,

If you want to replace your battery with the aforementioned capacitor device, you can get it from J and W Electronics. As far as I know, they only make the capacitor replacements for the older Protosound 1 and 2 units. The capacitors won't work with the new low-voltage 3.2 volt Protosound 2 units. J and W can be found here:
