What Have I got?

Am new to this thread. HO is my choice, so I generally hang out on MR and Trains general. This weekend I picked up a plastic train. Am normally not a collector ( have father in laws Lionel stuff on display) but got this for free.
It is in original good condition box. It says on box "Schilling Electric Train Set "
No house plug in! No transformer! NO SHOCK! It is a number 700. It was made by J.L. Schilling Co. of New York. It DOES have a transformer that apparently takes 4 D cell batteries. The engine is red, tender is blue, and two passenger coaches are yellow. There are 8 sections of curved track and 4 straight. It is three rail very cheap looking tin.
My questions are
1. Estimated value
2. Rarity
3. Worth keeping for display?

Anything is worth keeping for display if you like it. I have heard of Schilling but I don't know anything about them. You might check eBay for anything currently for sale or that has sold recently.

I own one of these sets. They were made in the late 1940's. They are somewhat rare, but due to being rather obscure, don't get the collector attention that they should. There is interest in them, though and boxed sets do get bid up on ebay. It's really hard to put a value on it. Unlike Lionel, American Flyer, etc., there aren't cut and dried prices for these things. If you sold it, you could get anywhere from $50-$100 (probably on the higher end of that range).
