New track plan from loinel

Speaking for myself, while I would never use it for a permanent layout I think the stuff is great for a Christmas tree layout or a throwdown layout. Every now and then when the weathers right I'll put a layout on the prch and this fits that need perfectly.

I realize that my opinion about Fasttrack is way different from that of many people.

I tried FasTrack about 10 months ago when I got back into "O" gauge. Thought it would be the great new thing and I thought I'd build a layout with it. I hated it. I hated the look of it (the ties are too thin and they are too close together. Result is that it looks like someone has painted stripers, not ties, on the track). The plastic "roadbed" is hard to put together (nothing fast about it for me, and it does not stay together). The track has the look of a slot car track. It is also TOO LOUD. I think it has applications for the Christmas tree layouts that some people do each winter, but it does not seem to be a real good choice for a permanant layout. Makes me wonder why it is so popular.

I really like FasTrack, and I've accumulated a lot of it from sets and seperate purchases, but aside from it's high cost, the one thing I do not like about it is the lack of smaller radius curves. Most people graduate from the floor to a 4x8 table. FasTrack doesn't fit all that well on one unless you only want only one loop.

I am beginning construction of a layout, and purchased Lionel tubular because it offered me more options in track planning. I'll use the FasTrack for carpet running and the occasional outdoor layout, if it ever stops raining here. May has been a total washout!

If not mistaken, CTT is going to have an article in the next issue regarding FasTrack track plans.

Yep, fasttrack should be available in Europe too (it is, in switserland, but the prices are double compared to usa prices..).
We also have a neat track, made by BUCO, but it's very expensive too..

Fastrack is the best Lionel track system (Hold on, Super O lovers, I'm not done!) for reliability
It looks great and the fit is perfect! The switches are wonderful!

I don't know that Lionel putting out a book of track plans means FastTrack has found acceptance.

It may mean they have to publish a book of plans (realitively small investment when compared to the development, intriduction, tooling etc of FastTrack) in order to generate more interest in it.

I was at Trainland today to buy the new Creative Toy Train Track Plans the guy behind the counter said that Lionel will be releasing a track plan book for Fastrack. later this year. I hope it is good and worth the wait.

He also said fastrack has been selling out very quickly. I went too buy some
straights and some O48 curves. He had none. [:p]
He told me in a week or so for the fastrack to come in.[:D]

well i still had to buy something. i bought a lionel fire dept flat car with corgi fire engine and not a bad price.
